Wavy Pedestal Bowl
This piece was fashioned from a Norfolk Island pine log from Florida. It came from a tree trimmer that had been cleaning up hurricane damaged trees. These trees have 5 to 9 small branches with red centers fairly evenly spaced around the tree at the same elevation. Approximately every 2 feet in elevation there will be another ring of branches. It was first turned on the wood lathe, leaving the rim of the bowl and foot thick enough to carve the wavy edges. I was trying to emulate the flowing lines and forms that glass artists can achieve with molten glass. This piece has a few small voids around the branches that have been inlayed with turquoise. |
